Meet Our Team

We couldn’t bring you professional, quality dental care without our wonderful staff’s hard work and dedication. Below you can meet our team, and as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to call our office.

Desiree “Des” – Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA), Certified Dental Assistant

Desiree, better known as “Des” to her patients, began her dental career here at Current Dental 11 years ago. She earned her certifications at South Puget Sound Community College and uses her education to provide optimal care for our patients. For Des, getting to know patients and helping to restore their smiles is the best part of her job!

When she’s outside of the office, Des enjoys going on adventures with her family.

Alma-May – Dental Hygienist

Alma-May has been an integral part of the Current Dental team ever since graduating from Eastern Washington University in 2016. The most rewarding aspect of her job is to build personal relationships with her patients while providing optimal dental care

Alma-May enjoys being outdoors when the weather is nice and spending time with family and friends. She likes staying active with skiing, camping, volleyball, and softball. But if a good Netflix show is on, you may catch her binge-watching it! She won’t stay on the couch too long though, as her long term goal is to explore our forever changing world.

Kaysey – Certified Dental Assistant

Kaysey has been with Current Dental since 2016. She has a diploma and certificate of Certified Dental Assistance from Renton Technical College. She values helping others and feels grateful to have found her professional home at our Bainbridge Island office. Though you can find Kaysey assisting on a range of dental procedures, she finds root canals to be the most rewarding.

Outside of the office, Kaysey enjoys farm life and spending quality time with her kids and husband.

Jim – Dental Hygienist

Jim is a graduate of Pierce College, and has been a Dental Hygienist since 2003. He has previous experience in the Navy as a nuclear technician.

Jim is currently in the Washington National Guard. “I enjoy the opportunity to enhance my patients’ lives.”

Missy – Registered Dental Assistant

Missy graduated from Everest Community College as an Ignite Ambassador in 2014. Her favorite part of being an RDA is how humbling it is to give care to patients in a positive and caring atmosphere, where their comfort and wellbeing is the main concern.

She is most passionate about her family, health, and being in nature. She enjoys the art in delicious food, and jamming out to music with her little one.

Alexis – Administrative Assistant

Alexis has been in the dental field for 16 years. She is very passionate about dentistry and overall health. She enjoys building professional relationships with patients and ensuring that they receive the best dental care available.

Outside of the office Alexis spends most of her time caring for her 2 daughters and volunteering with Bremerton Parks and Recreation. She also likes to cook and travel, and enjoys expressing her artistic side as a member of the West Sound Arts Council.

David “DJ” – Dental Assistant

DJ has been part of our team at Current Dental for almost one year. He came to the Pacific Northwest after graduating with his AA degree from Florida State College of Jacksonville Dental Assisting School. He is passionate about his career in dentistry because he loves people – as DJ says “People are fun!”

When he’s not providing expert care to our patients, DJ is relaxing in his houseboat, tending to his garden, playing video games, and maintaining his decade-long vegetarian diet.

Kaylin – Registered Dental Assistant

Originally hailing from the Sunshine State, Kaylin came to our office last year to share her dental expertise. As a registered dental assistant, Kaylin is focused on patient education, promoting prevention and good habits so that all Current Dental patients can have the healthiest smiles possible.

Away from the office, Kaylin loves playing her guitar, watching Netflix, and curling up with a good autobiography. She loves to travel and had the pleasure of seeing most of the U.S., and even London and Wales.

Gina – Registered Dental Hygienist, Medical Assistant

Holding both Registered Dental Hygienist and Medical Assistant certificates, we are happy to have Gina’s diverse expertise at Current Dental. She was inspired to go into the dental field after years of overcoming hurdles when it came to her own oral health. Because of her background, Gina brings plenty of empathy and understanding to her role.

Gina is a lover of the great outdoors. During her time off, you can find her and her husband trekking through the Cascade and Olympic Mountains. She also loves riding her motorcycle, playing soccer, and spending time with her cat, dog, and baby boy.

Shelley – Registered Dental Hygienist

With over 52 years working in the dental field, Shelly Mark is our seasoned expert in all things dental hygiene. She loves partnering with patients in keeping their smiles healthy for a lifetime and being part of the team at Current Dental.

In her spare time, you can find Shelley working out at the health club, gardening, golfing, and traveling. She is eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first grandchild (It’s a girl!).

Patient Testimonials

The talented team at Current Dental are professional, positive, and pleasant! Jim and Dr. Verharen have been my providers for the last 7 years and I can’t think of a better place to go for “over-the-top” dental care!

Ok, first time to the dentist in 15 years!!! I was super nervous and really scared but Crystal my hygienist made me feel super comfortable and talked me through EVERYTHING!!! Great staff, great people!

I had such an amazing experience! Every one in the office was extremely kind and intelligent. My dental hygienist was very educational and gentle. My dentist was also very pleasant and complementary! I look forward to my next visit!

I am so glad that my husband and I found Current Dental when we moved to Bremerton a year ago. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff and very convenient location.

I have the biggest fear of the dentist. I was putting off having to find a new one that I could trust to work with me and be tolerant of my silly phobia. They’re the best!
